Kamasi Washington released “The Epic” in 2015. The 3 hour piece of art established him as the premiere young jazz musician in the world. Next month, Washington and his band will release “Heaven and Earth,” a 2 and a half hour double album where disc 1 & 2 happen simultaneously in different planes, according to Washington.
In between those long, dense projects, an unassuming 32 minute EP was released from band called “Harmony of Difference.” While this is the shortest and musically thinnest project, it is also the easiest to digest, and still incredible. This album serves as a perfect entry point to the jazz artist to watch for the foreseeable future.
“Harmony of Difference” is a clinic on motif usage and the result is a 6 track project that sounds like one 30 minute song.
